8.5 hours drive south-west from Brisbane (730 km) or 6.5 hours drive north-west from Sydney (490 km).

To make this an overnight trip, choose from the following:
Dows campground – $6
Ogma campground – $6
Balor Hut campground – $12.30 or $24.60 for exclusive use of the hut, max. 4 people.
Burbie and Danu camgrounds further north-west, or Hurleys campground (off-trail, currently closed).

Warrumbungle is a Dark Sky Park designated for astronomy and stargazing.

Free hire of Personal Locator Beacons (PLB) from Warrumbungle Visitor Centre (open 9-4pm).

Rock climbing is permitted everywhere except the Breadknife and Chalkers Mountain. You’ll need to register at the Visitor Centre before you head out. Vehicle access costs $8 per day.

Fires are banned. Use a gas stove. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as they’re under direct control of an adult, the ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials, and there’s an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket).
